Full read-write Claude connector for Google Chat

Let Claude post messages and reply in threads inside Google Chat

Stop copy-pasting Claude's output into Google Chat. Claude posts to the right space, replies inside the existing thread, reacts, and shares a recap where the discussion is already happening, sending only once you approve.

Google Chat is Google's team messaging product, with direct messages and spaces that sit alongside Gmail and Workspace. People want Claude to do more than read messages: to post into the right space, reply in a thread, and pull a conversation into the work it is already doing.

What is a Google Chat MCP server?

A Google Chat MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Google Chat's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can draft, send, and triage messages inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.

What can Google Chat's current connector do today?

Google has a native Claude connector for Chat that searches conversations, lists messages, and sends a basic message. It exposes a small standard tool set, so threaded replies, reactions, multi-space scoping, and approval gating are left out. A custom connector adds those actions with scoped, human-in-the-loop controls so Claude works inside the conversation.

What does full read-write Google Chat access unlock?

Full read-write Google Chat access lets Claude post a message to a space, reply inside the right thread, react, and share a summary back where the discussion is happening. The handoff that used to mean copy-pasting Claude's output into Chat instead lands in the space, on the thread, after you approve it.

  • Post a message to a specific space or direct message
  • Reply inside an existing thread, keeping the conversation together
  • Summarize a long thread and post the recap back to the space
  • Add an emoji reaction to a message
  • Share a status update or notice across the spaces you choose
  • Draft an announcement for a space and send it once you approve

Can Claude post a message to a Google Chat space?

Yes. Claude can post a message to a specific space or direct message, so its output lands where your team is already talking instead of in a separate window. Posting is a gated write action, so the message is composed for you and only sent to the space after you approve it.

Can Claude reply inside a Google Chat thread?

Claude can reply inside an existing thread, keeping the conversation together rather than starting a fresh message. It can also summarize a long thread and post the recap back to the space, and add an emoji reaction, all within the spaces your own Workspace account can already see.

Will Claude send a Google Chat message without my approval?

No. Reading and drafting flow freely, but sending is a separate, gated action that runs only after you confirm it. Claude can draft an announcement or status update and show it to you, and nothing is posted to a space or person until you approve it.

How a Google Chat connector works

We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Google Chat with OAuth 2.0 and the narrowest scopes the work needs, using your Workspace permissions. Read tools (list spaces, read messages) and write tools (post, reply, react) are kept separate, and outbound actions like sending a message require your confirmation. Claude never has more access than your own Google account already has, and IP allowlisting can be added where your Workspace policy calls for it.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude post messages to a Google Chat space, not just read them?
Yes. The native connector can send a basic message, but a custom Google Chat connector adds replying inside an existing thread, reacting, and posting across the spaces you scope, so Claude's output lands where your team is already talking. It pairs those write actions with the Workspace scopes and approval steps the work needs.
Will Claude send a Google Chat message without my approval?
No. Posting is a separate, gated write action. Claude can draft the message and show it to you, but it is only sent to the space or person after you approve it. You decide which actions run automatically and which always require a confirmation step before anything is posted.
Does the Google Chat connector get more access than I have?
No. The connector authenticates as your account through OAuth and inherits your existing Workspace permissions, including which spaces you belong to. It never grants Claude access to a space or conversation that you cannot already see or post to yourself.
