Full read-write Claude connector for WhatsApp Business

Let Claude draft replies and send approved templates in WhatsApp Business

Stop switching apps to clear the WhatsApp queue. Claude reads the conversation, drafts a reply in context, sends interactive button menus to triage incoming chats, and sends approved template messages only once you confirm, all within Meta's session and template rules.

WhatsApp Business is Meta's messaging platform for companies, used to reach customers on the same app they already chat on. Teams want Claude to do more than read message history: to draft and send replies, run template messages, and send interactive button menus through the Business API.

What is a WhatsApp Business MCP server?

A WhatsApp Business MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes WhatsApp Business's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can draft, send, and triage messages inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.

What can WhatsApp Business's current connector do today?

Today, WhatsApp Business has no first-party Claude or MCP connector, so out of the box Claude cannot read or send messages. Any access goes through Meta's Cloud or On-Premises Business API, which requires an approved account, a registered number, and pre-approved templates for proactive sends. A custom connector wraps that API with scoped, human-in-the-loop write controls.

What does full read-write WhatsApp Business access unlock?

Full read-write WhatsApp Business access lets Claude draft a reply inside an open conversation, send approved template messages, mark chats read, send interactive button or list menus, and queue outbound messages once you approve. The triage and customer replies that used to mean switching apps happen where the conversation already lives, within Meta's session and template rules.

  • Draft a reply inside an open customer conversation, preserving context
  • Send a pre-approved template message after you approve it
  • Send an interactive button or list menu to triage incoming chats
  • Mark conversations read as you clear the queue
  • Pull every chat matching a query and propose batched replies
  • Queue an outbound message within the allowed customer session window

Can Claude reply inside an open WhatsApp Business chat?

Yes. With a full read-write connector, Claude drafts a reply inside an open customer conversation, preserving the context of the thread. Within Meta's 24-hour session window, that reply can be queued and sent after you approve it, so the response happens where the conversation already lives.

Can Claude send template messages in WhatsApp Business?

Claude can stage and send pre-approved template messages, which is how Meta requires proactive sends outside the 24-hour window. The template content still has to clear Meta's approval rules first, and the actual send is a separate, gated action that runs only after you confirm it.

Can Claude triage incoming WhatsApp Business chats?

Yes. Claude can pull every chat matching a query, send interactive button or list menus to route them, and mark conversations read as you clear the queue. It drafts responses for the ones that need a reply, while sending stays gated and never grants Claude more reach than your Business account holds.

How a WhatsApp Business connector works

We build a small MCP server that authenticates to the WhatsApp Business API with a scoped Meta access token and your registered phone number ID, never more access than the account already has. Read tools (list chats, read messages) and write tools (draft, send template, send interactive menu) are separated, and outbound sends are gated behind your confirmation. Where Meta requires it, the server runs from an allowlisted IP and respects the 24-hour session and template rules.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude send WhatsApp Business messages, or just read conversations?
It can do both with a custom connector. Reads (listing chats, reading message history) and writes (draft, send) are separate tools. Because there is no first-party connector today, sending requires a purpose-built one that calls Meta's Business API, and proactive messages outside the 24-hour window must use a pre-approved template.
Will Claude send a message to a customer without my approval?
No. Send is a separate, gated write action. Claude can draft the reply or stage a template message, but it is only delivered after you approve it. You decide which actions run automatically and which require a confirmation step, and template content still has to clear Meta's approval rules first.
Does the connector get more access than my WhatsApp Business account?
No. The connector authenticates with a scoped Meta access token tied to your registered number, so it inherits the permissions your Business account already has. It never grants Claude broader reach than you hold, and outbound messaging stays bound by Meta's session window and template policies.
