A Twilio MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Twilio's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can draft, send, and triage messages inside your own account. What can Twilio's current connector do today?
Twilio's native Claude connector is real, but it only searches API docs and specs. It cannot touch your account, so it cannot send a message, manage numbers, or even read live logs. What does full read-write Twilio access unlock?

Can Claude send an SMS through Twilio for me?
Yes. Claude can send an SMS or WhatsApp message from a number on your account through Twilio's API, instead of only reading message logs. Send is a gated action, so Claude prepares the message and it goes out only after you approve it, never silently on your behalf.
Can Claude buy and manage phone numbers in Twilio?
Claude can search available numbers in a given area code and propose a purchase, then buy or release a number in Twilio once you confirm it. It can also add or remove numbers from a messaging service and update a number's voice and messaging webhook URLs.
Does the Twilio connector get more access than my own credentials?
No. The connector uses a scoped Twilio API key you provision, inheriting exactly the permissions of that key and the account or subaccount it belongs to. It never grants Claude more access than your own credentials already have, and you can revoke the key at any time.
How a Twilio connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Twilio with a scoped API key and secret, never broader than the account or subaccount it runs against. Read tools (look up logs, list numbers) and write tools (send, purchase, configure) are separated, and outbound or destructive actions like send a message or release a number require your confirmation. Where Twilio supports it, we restrict the key to a subaccount and can pair the server with IP allowlisting.
