Full read-write Claude connector for Google Drive
Let Claude create, organize, and edit your files in Google Drive
Stop uploading, renaming, and filing by hand. Claude creates the doc or sheet, drops it in the right folder, updates content in place, and tidies your workspace where the files already live, with sharing changes gated behind your approval.
Google Drive is Google's cloud storage for documents, spreadsheets, slides, and files, where most teams keep their working library. People want Claude to do more than read what is there: to create and organize files, move and share them, and update content in place.
What is a Google Drive MCP server?
A Google Drive MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Google Drive's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can files and folders inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.
What can Google Drive's current connector do today?
Today, the default Google Drive connection is read-leaning: Claude can search and pull file content, but creating files, moving or organizing them, editing in place, and managing sharing are limited or unavailable. A custom Google Drive connector adds those write actions with scoped, human-in-the-loop controls, so Claude works inside your Drive rather than beside it.
What does full read-write Google Drive access unlock?
Full read-write Google Drive access lets Claude create a new doc or sheet, drop it in the right folder, rename and move files, update existing content, and adjust sharing once you approve. The organizing and drafting that used to mean manual upload and filing happen where the files already live.
- Create a new document or spreadsheet and place it in a chosen folder
- Move, rename, or organize files and folders to tidy a workspace
- Update the contents of an existing file in place
- Adjust sharing or permissions for a file after you approve
- Copy a template into a new project folder and fill it in
- Find every file matching a query and propose how to reorganize them
Can Claude create and edit files in Google Drive?
Yes. With a full read-write Google Drive connector, Claude can create a new document or spreadsheet, place it in the folder you choose, and update the contents of an existing file in place. The default connection is mostly read-only, so creating and editing needs scoped write access.
Can Claude organize and move files in Google Drive?
Claude can move, rename, and reorganize files and folders to tidy a workspace, copy a template into a new project folder and fill it in, or find every file matching a query and propose how to reorganize them. The organizing that used to mean manual filing happens inside your Drive.
Will Claude delete files or change sharing in Google Drive?
Deleting a file and changing who it is shared with are separate, gated actions. Claude can prepare the change, but it only takes effect after you approve it. The connector authenticates as your account, so it never reaches files you cannot already reach yourself.
How a Google Drive connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Google Drive with OAuth 2.0 and the narrowest scopes the work needs. Read tools (search, fetch file) and write tools (create, move, edit, share) are separated, and destructive or outbound actions like delete and changing sharing require your confirmation. Claude only ever has the access your own Google account already has.
