Full read-write Claude connector for Box
Let Claude upload, organize, and share files in Box
Stop filing, tidying, and link-sharing by hand. Claude uploads files into the right folder, reorganizes and renames as it goes, adds comments, and prepares shared links, all where your content already lives in Box.
Box is a cloud content platform where teams store, share, and collaborate on files and folders. People want Claude to do more than read documents: to organize folders, manage sharing, add comments, and move work forward inside Box.
What is a Box MCP server?
A Box MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Box's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can files and folders inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.
What can Box's current connector do today?
Today, Box's directory Claude connection tends to be read-leaning, good for finding and reading files but thin on writes like uploading, moving, renaming, sharing, or commenting. A custom Box connector adds those write actions with scoped, human-in-the-loop controls, so Claude acts inside Box instead of only summarizing what it finds.
What does full read-write Box access unlock?
Full read-write Box access lets Claude upload and update files, create and reorganize folders, generate or revoke shared links, add comments, and apply metadata, all once you approve. The filing, tidying, and sharing that used to mean manual clicks happen where the content already lives.
- Upload a new file or save a new version into the right folder
- Create and reorganize folders, then move or rename files into them
- Generate or revoke a shared link with the access level you choose
- Add a comment to a file to leave context for collaborators
- Apply or update metadata so content stays searchable and tagged
- Delete an outdated file after you confirm the action
Can Claude upload and organize files in Box?
Yes. Claude can upload a new file or save a new version into the right folder, then create and reorganize folders and move or rename files into them. A custom Box connector adds these write actions, so Claude files content where it belongs instead of only reading what it finds.
Can Claude create a shared link in Box?
Claude can generate a shared link with the access level you choose, and revoke one when it is no longer needed. Because a link sends content outward, sharing is a gated action: Claude prepares the link, but it only goes live after you confirm the access settings.
Will Claude delete Box files without my approval?
No. Deleting a file is a separate, gated action that runs only after you confirm it. Claude can add comments, apply metadata, and tidy folders freely, but anything destructive or outbound waits for your approval. The connector never has more access than your own Box account.
How a Box connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Box with OAuth 2.0 and the narrowest scopes the work needs. Read tools (search, read file) and write tools (upload, move, share, comment) are separated, and destructive or outbound actions like delete and link sharing require your confirmation. Claude only ever has the access your own Box account already has.
