Full read-write Claude connector for QuickBooks Online
Have Claude draft invoices and record expenses in QuickBooks Online
Stop re-keying the books between Claude and the register. Claude drafts invoices, records expenses and bills against the right account and vendor where your financials already live, and posts or sends only once you approve.
QuickBooks Online is Intuit's cloud accounting platform that small and mid-sized businesses run their bookkeeping from. People want Claude to do more than read reports: to draft invoices, record expenses, and post purchases and payments inside the books.
What is a QuickBooks Online MCP server?
A QuickBooks Online MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes QuickBooks Online's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can invoices, payments, and books inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.
What can QuickBooks Online's current connector do today?
Today, most QuickBooks Online and Claude setups lean read-only or cover a thin slice: Claude can summarize reports and look up records, but creating invoices, recording payments, and posting purchases are limited or unavailable. A custom connector adds those write actions with scoped, human-in-the-loop controls, so Claude works inside the books rather than beside them.
What does full read-write QuickBooks Online access unlock?
Full read-write QuickBooks Online access lets Claude draft an invoice, record a bill or expense, record purchases and customer payments, add customers and vendors, and post once you approve. The bookkeeping that used to mean re-keying between Claude and the register happens where the financials already live.
- Draft an invoice for a customer with line items, then send after you approve
- Record an expense or bill against the right account and vendor
- Record purchases and expenses directly to the right account and vendor
- Create or update customer and vendor records
- Record a customer payment against an open invoice
- Prepare a credit memo or estimate for your review
Can Claude create invoices in QuickBooks Online?
Yes. With a full read-write QuickBooks Online connector, Claude creates an invoice with line items, the right customer, and amounts inside your books. The default setup leans read-only, so creating and sending invoices needs scoped write access, and sending stays a separate step that waits for your approval.
Can Claude record expenses and bills in QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Claude records expenses, bills, and purchases against the right account and vendor in QuickBooks Online, and posts customer payments to open invoices. It works inside the books rather than beside them, so the bookkeeping no longer means copying figures back and forth by hand.
Will Claude post or send anything in QuickBooks Online without my approval?
No. Posting an invoice, sending it to a customer, or deleting a record are gated write actions in QuickBooks Online. Claude prepares the entry, but it is committed or sent only after you confirm. The connector authenticates as your user and never gets more access to the books than you already have.
How a QuickBooks Online connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to QuickBooks Online with OAuth 2.0 and the narrowest scopes the work needs. Read tools (look up records, pull reports) and write tools (create invoice, record expense, record purchase) are separated, and outbound or hard-to-reverse actions like sending an invoice or deleting a record require your confirmation. Claude only ever has the access your own QuickBooks user already has.
