A Jane MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Jane's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can industry-specific platforms inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.
What can Jane's current connector do today?
Today Jane has no public API or self-serve API keys, and no dedicated Claude or MCP connector. API access is granted only through Jane's approval-based Developer Platform partner program, using practitioner-authorized OAuth. A compliant connection is built as an approved Jane integration, which can then expose scoped read and write actions like reading the schedule and amending chart observations and care plans with human-in-the-loop controls.
What does full read-write Jane access unlock?
Approved Jane access lets Claude read appointments and the schedule, look up patient records, and create or amend chart observations, care plans, care plan activities, and medications against the right record once you approve. Can Claude read the schedule and appointments in Jane?
Yes. Claude can read appointments and the schedule for an existing patient and look up their record, so you can see what is booked without opening Jane. The current public Jane API exposes appointments as read-only, so Claude reads the schedule but does not book or reschedule visits.
Can Claude update charts and care plans in Jane?
Claude can create or amend a chart observation against the correct patient and visit, and add or update care plans and care plan activities. These are scoped write actions, so Claude prepares the change and shows you exactly what it will do before anything is committed to the record.
Can Claude update medications in Jane?
Claude can add or amend a patient's medications against the right record, and this runs only after you approve it. Look-ups and drafting flow freely while the actual write always waits for a human, and Claude never gets more access than your own Jane login already has.
How a Jane connector works
We build the MCP server as an approved Jane Developer Platform partner integration, using Jane's OAuth 2.0 (PKCE) flow with the narrowest practitioner-authorized scopes the work needs. Read tools (look up patients, appointments, charts) and write tools (create or amend observations, care plans, and medications) are separated, and write actions require your confirmation. The connection only ever has the access the authorizing practitioner already has, and we can add IP allowlisting where your setup supports it.
