Full read-write Claude connector for DocuSign

Let Claude prepare envelopes and send them for signature in DocuSign

Stop clicking through the DocuSign console to build every envelope. Claude assembles the envelope from a template, adds recipients and signing order, places the fields, and sends it for signature only once you approve.

DocuSign is the e-signature and agreement platform teams use to send, sign, and track contracts. People want Claude to do more than look up envelope status: to prepare envelopes, place fields, add recipients, and send documents out for signature.

What is a DocuSign MCP server?

A DocuSign MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes DocuSign's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can agreements and signatures inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.

What can DocuSign's current connector do today?

DocuSign ships an official MCP connector (Open Beta) that can already create and send envelopes for signature today, working from your existing templates. Direct file uploads are the documented limit, not sending. A custom connector adds what the template path leaves out: custom field placement, non-template workflows, multi-account control, and per-action human-in-the-loop gating.

What does full read-write DocuSign access unlock?

Full read-write DocuSign access lets Claude build an envelope from a template, add recipients and signing order, place signature and date fields, and send it for signature once you approve. The contract prep that used to mean clicking through the DocuSign console happens where the request already started.

  • Create an envelope from a template and populate its fields
  • Add recipients and set a signing order on an envelope
  • Place signature, initial, and date fields for each signer
  • Send a prepared envelope for signature after you approve it
  • Send a reminder to a recipient who has not yet signed
  • Void an envelope that was sent in error, with your confirmation

Can Claude create an envelope from a template in DocuSign?

Yes. Create an envelope from a template in DocuSign by having Claude build it, populate the fields, add recipients, and set a signing order. The envelope is staged and ready for review, so the prep that used to mean clicking through the console happens where your request already started.

Can Claude place signature fields in DocuSign?

Claude can place signature, initial, and date fields for each signer on a prepared DocuSign envelope, then set the recipients and signing order. Field placement is a write action, so the connector exposes it through scoped tools that act only on the envelopes your account can already reach.

Will Claude send or void a DocuSign envelope without my approval?

No. Sending an envelope for signature and voiding one are separate, gated actions in DocuSign. Claude prepares the envelope, places fields, and stages recipients, but it only sends or voids after you confirm. The connector authenticates as your account, so it never gets more access than you already have.

How a DocuSign connector works

We build a small MCP server that authenticates to DocuSign with OAuth 2.0 and the narrowest scopes the work needs. Read tools (look up envelope, list recipients) and write tools (create envelope, place fields, send) are separated, and outbound or destructive actions like send and void require your confirmation. Claude only ever has the access your own DocuSign account already has.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude send a document for signature in DocuSign?
Yes. DocuSign's official connector can already send from templates, and a custom DocuSign connector goes further: it prepares an envelope, adds recipients, places fields, and sends for signature beyond the template path. Sending is a separate, gated action, so Claude builds the envelope and you approve before anything goes out.
Will Claude send or void a DocuSign envelope without my approval?
No. Sending an envelope and voiding one are separate, gated write actions. Claude can prepare the envelope, populate fields, and stage the recipients, but it only sends or voids after you approve that step. You decide which actions run automatically and which require an explicit confirmation first.
Does a DocuSign connector get more access than my own account?
No. The connector authenticates as your account through OAuth and inherits your existing permissions. If you cannot send from a given account or see a particular envelope, neither can Claude. It never grants Claude more access to your DocuSign account than you already have yourself.
